My friend Glendon pointed me to the blog of an very successful tech professional who is battling depression, and has decided to anonymously blog about it. His story is desperate, but so compelling because it so clearly expresses The Lie and the tragedy of the American Dream.

We have been BUSY! I am telling you, these guys know how to make us work! Since we have a relatively short time per term (3 wks), we’ve got to stuff as much class time per day into that, and stuff it they do. Four hour and a half classes a day, plus chapel, plus a planned evening activity, plus homework, makes a nice full schedule. So it’s great to be sitting here on a Saturday morning with relatively nothing planned for the day. Ahhh….
Let me tell you, I love it here! The students are great, the teachers excellent, the classes life-changing, etc etc etc. Thai culture is fascinating, the language nearly impossible, the people nice, the food very good (if you like rice) and way too spicy (unless you have your own personal Thai cook) (which we do).
It is VERY warm (over 100 most days) (No, we don’t have AC). We have approx 10 fans in our dorm. But it’s cooled off just a bit, thanks to some rain, and last night I was actually glad for a sheet over me.
About future updates. I’ll probably be writing a few (no promises) updates by email, especially when we do ministry trips. And I’m also going to try to post more student pics sometime on this blog.

Even the 17 hr. flight wasn’t too bad, thanks to the excellent service provided by Royal Thai Airways. Plenty of leg room, 3 great meals, a hot washcloth before the meals, etc, etc. Never thought I would survive the flight. Not so bad.
We flew from JFK straight to Bangkok, Thailand, so we went up over Canada and Greenland, over the Arctic, then down over Russia and China. Check out these Arctic Mountains (picture taken by Christine Fisher).
Look very refreshing! This afternoon it was about 100 degrees F!
Even so, I’m lovin it!

If all goes as planned, I’ll be outta here wednesday morning for Thailand. Wow. I am excited!!! Also sad. Eric will be leaving for 2 years in Poland before I return. :(
