Veterans of Life Interviews at School

  DSCF7486

On Friday we had the first four out of seven interviews of “veterans of life,” people that have lived longer than we have and have something to say. My students came up with some really good questions. The experience was a good one for the whole school. Looking forward to the next 3 on Friday.

Old Youth Group Pics

Just because I can, here are some pics from a youth camping trip in 2001.

OK, so that doesn’t work so well. :(

Does windows live writer really work?

It sure does!! Beans of Cool! This is the neatest innovation since wordpress (not quite), but it sure is cool, in the first 5 min or so that I’ve had it. You can edit files on your computer and then upload straight to the blog. It is smart about wordpress too—downloaded all my tags and seems to know something about my blog. Way to go Microsoft!

And speaking of Microsoft, have you tried Windows 7? If not, run, don’t walk, to the microsoft website and download the 2.5 gb beta, before they stop offering it. It is way past cool! Way better than Vista, so far! Fast, slick….. just very nice.

Well, since I can’t talk to Alison today (she’s tramping around in Rome), I’ve gotta entertain myself somehow. The latest goodies from Microsoft are a distant second. :(

the news of the century!

Folks, I’ll get right to the point.  I’m dating Alison Funk! I’m blessed, blessed, and amazed. I’m in Poland, where she is, and where I first met her in 2002. Here we are in front of her beloved little Fiat, the “frog,” which took us to the coffee shop where it began (again).

quote

“The Church of Jesus Christ is not the goal of the Gospel, just the instrument of the extension of God’s mission”. “The Church has been slow to recognize that missions isn’t a program the Church administers, it is the very core of the Church’s reason for being.”  –John Franke

I am not driving this week

With the exception of picking up my parents at the aiport (YAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!), I hereby declare, in the presence of this webcam, that I will not be driving my car this week. My bike and my legs should be sufficient to take me wherever I need to go.

bye bye keys…

***************************Update, Sunday, October 19*****************************

The week is over. It’s been a good thing. I didn’t drive my car at all this week.  I biked, walked, or rode with someone else.

I did this bc I wanted to see if I could do it, I wanted to get more exercise, I wanted to sympathize with people who don’t have cars, and saving gas money is never a bad thing. I think I’ll continue biking to school; I feel better when I do that.

I drove my car this evening and the sensation of effortlessly floating down the road felt good, but the sensation of the wind on your face, of you and the narrow tires and the road, of conquering a hill; that’s even better.

Just say NO to bread

Found this at http://www.physics.uwo.ca/ugrad/p021/course_information/bread.html. It’s good for a laugh.

  1. More than 98 percent of convicted felons are bread users.
  2. Fully HALF of all children who grow up in bread-consuming households score below average on standardized tests.
  3. In the 18th century, when virtually all bread was baked in the home, the average life expectancy was less than 50 years; infant mortality rates were unacceptably high; many women died in childbirth; and diseases such as typhoid, yellow fever, and influenza ravaged whole nations
  4. More than 90 percent of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread.
  5. Bread is made from a substance called “dough.” It has been proven that as little as one pound of dough can be used to suffocate a mouse. The average North American eats more bread than that in one month!
